Paul Adams Wins GOP Primary for State Rep.

On Tuesday, September 14, 2010, Paul Adams won the Republican Primary election for State Representative in the 17th Essex House Legislative District, defeating Sal Tabit. Cambridge City Council passes resolution in support of the DREAM Act

On Monday, August 2, 2010, The City Council of Cambridge, MA unanimously passed a resolution in support of a proposed piece of federal legislation known as the DREAM Act, which would provide a pathway to U.S. citizenship for illegal immigrant students, if those students graduate from college or a trade school or join the military. The 9-0 vote was symbolic, as the The City Council doesn't have the legislative authority to make the DREAM Act a law (that will have to be done by Congress and the President), but it was a local show of support for the sentiment behind the proposed federal legislation. Before the Council voted on the resolution, it heard public comments from Christopher Hope - a local Christian minister, human rights activist, and author of the resolution - as well as from other student immigration activists and local residents. The Tea Party Express Rolls into Boston

On Wednesday, April 14, 2010, (the day before "tax day" - the day on which federal and state income tax returns are due to the government) the Tea Party Express rolled into Boston to hold a protest rally on Boston Common. Tea Party activists expressed their anger and opposition to what they see as out of control spending and high levels of taxation by the government. The 'Tea' in the Tea Party Rally movement has come to stand for "taxed enough already," however, it originally was a reference to the historical event known as 'The Boston Tea Party,' which played an important role in The American Revolution. On December 16, 1773, after officials in Boston refused to pay taxes to the British Government on three shiploads of tea that were docked at a nearby wharf and ready to be unloaded, a group of colonists boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor. While the aim of that action was to protest taxation without representation, the goal of the modern day Tea Party movement is to influence elections, and curb government spending and levels of taxation. Former Alaska Governor and 2008 Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin headlined the event on Boston Common, giving a speech that fired up the activists in the crowd. The Bean Media was on hand to capture the rally and talk with Tea Party activists.

Gibson filed a report on the economic success of Fenway Park amid the current economic crisis, and then anchored the "World News" newscast atop a parking garage located next to The Hard Rock Cafe. Voters Make Their Voices Heard in Historic U.S. Senate Election

On Tuesday, January 19, 2010, the eyes of the nation were on Massachusetts and its special election, as Bay State voters elected State Senator Scott Brown of Wrentham in a politically earthshattering upset win over State Attorney General Martha Coakley, to fill the U.S. Senate Seat held by Ted Kennedy for 47 years. The Bean Media caught up with voters outside of City Hall in Boston, to find out what issues mattered most to them in this historic election.

The Kennedy Family Arrives at the JFK Presidential Library and Museum in Boston

On Thursday, August 27, 2009, the body of U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts, was brought to the JFK Presidential Library and Museum to lie in repose. The public gathered to pay their final respects. In addition to the crowd outside, the public was also allowed to visit and sign condolence books inside the library. "The Proposal" was filmed in MA, and stars Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson, & Betty White.

Minorities in the Media Panel Discussion

On Tuesday, May 12, 2009, a panel discussion was held at UMass Boston that focused on the subject of "Minorities in the Media." Boston area media personalities discussed issues of diversity in broadcast journalism. They also touched upon many other topics, including the current state of journalism and TV News, and the role the Internet is playing in the New Media landscape, and how the economic downturn is affecting coverage. Former WEAR-TV Anchor Francesca Maxime moderated the discussion. Participants included WHDH Anchor Frances Rivera, NECN Anchor/Reporter Latoyia Edwards, and NECN Editor Randolph Charlotin. The event was put on by the Asian American Journalists Association New England Chapter.
